Dear Student(Parents), You are about to begin an exciting year at Marietta Middle School. It is my sincere wish that everyday will be filled with many learning experiences. Please understand that this year your math class will be only 47 minutes, therefore we always work from bell to bell. As a student in my math class, there are a number of information bits that will be helpful: *Materials needed:a) 1 package of paper and a dozen of pencils to leave in the classroom for later use, b)colored pencils, c) a 1 1/2 inch 3 ring binder with dividers, d) glue stick, e)ear buds and one box of tissues *Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday, tests and most quizzes will be announced in advance. All efforts "count" in Math, so do your best on all work. *Instruction methods will include lecture, "hands-on", inquiry, use of technology, and projects. *Afterschool/Lunch Help-TBA as the new schedule for teachers have limited available times. Pretests will be given frequently to keep the teacher informed of what has been mastered. *ODE website-Visiting this website will provide you with information on the new Common Core Standards on Mathematics and opportunities to practice PARCC tests, and more. *Test alerts-This is a notice of an upcoming test, when signed results in EC points. *Contacting the Teacher-I am always available to return a call or email until midnight each day, however my career is not limited to MMS, so occasionally it may be the next day before I reply. I encourage you to communicate, that keeps me well informed of concerns, etc. Contact me by phone (Home)740-373-1041,(Cell) 740-525-8762, email [email protected] or [email protected], or by visiting finleymath.weebly.com website. *Website-finleymath.weebly.com-website includes homework assignments, helpful Math websites, and handouts. *Teacher phone calls-Communication is an important part of teaching, therefore if you hear my voice on the phone, think POSITIVE!! I may be calling to share GOOD NEWS. *Parent-Teacher Conferences-Always available, knowing in advance allows for preparation on my part. *Tentative Timeline for Math Textbook 1st semester-Chapt. 1-7 and 2nd sem. Chapt. 8-13 *Sign-up for REMIND and receive a text message daily with a listing of the Math assignments and any additional resources. *"I Can" statements which describe each day's target of learning are listed daily in the planner-this is a reminder to you to share what you learned in Math daily with your parents.
